According to the THRENDS Luxury Hotels Database, there are currently 11 5-star hotels on Lake Como, for a total of 629 keys. Over the next two years, however, the opening of two further 5-star hotels in the area is expected, following upgrade and rebranding operations: the Hotel Grande Bretagne and the Hotel Excelsior Britannia. Hotel Excelsior Britannia was taken over in 2021 by Bain Capital by the Whieldon family. The asset that will be repositioned as a 5* branded «Edition Hotels» (Marriott Int.) will be inaugurated during 2025.

The opening of the Hotel Grande Bretagne, also following a repositioning as a 5* and, according to rumors , branded «Ritz Carlton» (Marriott Int.) , is scheduled for 2024. The luxury offer in the area is almost entirely made up of independent hotels (8/11). In the years 2013 – 2019, revenues/keys grew at a CAGR of +9.9%, going from 111.3 thousand euros to 195.9 thousand euros. 2020 saw a collapse of the indicator equal to -74.6%, while in 2021, the hotels in the panel reached values equal to 80% of those recorded in 2019.

As a result, TRevPAR also experienced growth stable in the years 2013-2019, then a collapse and a similar recovery in the years 2020 and 2021. Again in the years 2013-2019, margins grew at a CAGR of +4.1%. 2020, on the other hand, represented a setback, bringing the indicator to -57%. In 2021, however, margins were already in positive territory.
