Hyatt Hotels Corporation recently announced the opening in Rome of the second Thompson in Europe, after Thompson Madrid, inaugurated in 2022. There is another one in pipeline in Europe: Thompson Vienna, whose opening is scheduled for 2025. The 70-room 5* lifestyle hotel will be built in the former PCI headquarters in Via delle Botteghe Oscure in Rome and the opening is expected within the first half of 2024. The offer will be completed by a restaurant, a terrace with cocktail bar, two meeting rooms and a fitness center. As anticipated in «The Bulletin» of 15.06.2022, Finanziaria Tosinvest, owner of the former PCI headquarters in Via delle Botteghe Oscure in Rome, had announced the restoration and conversion to 5 star hotel from 70 keys of the building, of about 8,000 square meters.
Botteghe Oscure S.r.l., the company that rented the property, is one joint venture owned by the hotel group AG Group and the Rossfin Group, appointed companies also to carry out all the redevelopment works. The future host of the Thompson Rome, the AG group, again through Botteghe Oscure S.r.l., entered into a franchise agreement with Hyatt Hotels Corporation. We remember the agreement of franchise signed in 2021 between AG Group (through the AG Hotels brand) and the group international Hyatt Hotels, which he had seen the entry of Il Tornabuoni of Florence in the «The Unbound Collection by Hyatt» collection e of The Tribune of Rome in the portfolio «JdV by Hyatt’. Thompson Rome will mark the seventh hotel in Hyatt brand in Italy and the second in Rome, precisely joining The Tribune Hotel. We recall, however, the recent exit from the portfolio of AG Hotels of Il Tornabuoni in Florence e the entry of the latter into the Vretreats portfolio (VOI Hotels). With the new management of VOIHotels through the VRretreats brand, the structure, which was already part of «The Unbound Collection by Hyatt», has effectively become dual-branded. As reported in «The Bulletin» of 19.05.2023, also the former Radisson Blu Es Hotel Rome, acquired in 2021 by InvestiRE SGR through a fund fully subscribed by Blantyre Capital, based investment firm in London, it will be rebranded with a del portfolio of Hyatt.
