The French chain «Les Domaines de Fontenille» lands in Italy, with a 5* structure with 22 keys. The works are nearing completion, and the opening is scheduled for 15 June 2023. Fontenille Toscana will be located next to the Pieve di Santa Maria Novella in Radda in Chianti (SI), inside an ancient convent. The rooms will be distributed in several buildings that develop around a central bell tower, in the ancient summer residence of the Bishops of Siena. The hotel offer will be completed by an Italian bistro restaurant open to outsiders, a wine bar, a swimming pool and a SPA. The Group currently owns a portfolio of 11 hotels, located in France and Spain, most of which are affiliated to the Relais & Chateaux network. La Catena is in a moment of strong expansion: in addition to the Fontenille Toscana, there are two hotels in the pipeline in Provence, Fontenille Bien-être Provence opening in April, and Chalamon Provence in May 2023. We recall the recent opening of another hotel of luxury and the debut of another chain, «Precise Hotels», with the opening of Precise Tale Poggio alla Sala, 5* with 91 keys, located in Montepulciano. According to the THRENDS Luxury Hotels Database, there are 17 5-star hotels in the province of Siena (approx. 870 keys), while there are 3 hotels opening in the coming years (approx. 200 keys). The luxury offer in the area is mainly composed of independent hotels. As far as economic performance is concerned, 7 of the 17 properties in the area are classified, according to Thrends, as top-luxury*. In the years 2013 – 2019, the revenues/keys of top-luxury classified hotels grew at a CAGR of +10.6%, going from 121 thousand euros to 222 thousand euros. 2020 saw a collapse of the indicator equal to – 70.3%. Also in the years 2013 – 2019, the margins increased from 27% to +18%.
